How to fake French

My sweet friend Jess (who is going to Paris for her birthday next year!) showed me this – it had me laughing the whole way through!

The good thing about me is that I save images I like in organised folders – the bad thing is I sometimes forget to write down where they’re from…

French Accent Sign
A few signs I’m really tired:

  • In conversation I call everything ‘thing’. Not just nouns – I use ‘thing’ as a verb too: ‘You know, when we went thing-ing last week?’
  • I blank for the English word I want. A lot. Then, a) if I am talking to someone who doesn’t understand French I describe the word I am looking for with emphatic hand gestures (crazy lady) or b) I am talking to Christian I just use the French word instead (Jean-Claude Van Damme).
  • My conjugation goes haywire.
  • You can forget about the difference between ‘advise’ and ‘advice’. And ‘prize’ and ‘price’.
  • I sound more and more like a character from Allo Allo (normally, not so much).

Today I’m exhibiting all the above.

Doing some French email-writing today – meaning my alt keyboard key is getting a lot of love, and I will most likely dream in French tonight.

Glass of freshly squeezed pineapple juice
Cup of tea and bag of tissues

The last weeks have been uneventful, as I battled a persistent flu-type virus – highlights of my days included fresh pineapple juice and hot tea. Non-highlights included incessant nose-blowing and feeling germy 24/7.

Also, this delightful exchange between Christian and I:
Me: ‘I can’t really turn my neck.’
Christian: ‘It’s not meningitis.’
Me: ‘How did you know what I was thinking?’
Christian: ‘Because all French people have a f—–g*phobia of meningitis. The minute you get the sniffles, you’re like ‘Is my neck sore?”.

What can I say, the man knows me!

*Let’s stay classy, yes?
